The One Thing You Should Talk About With Every Customer!

Feel like you’re oversharing at the club or running out of things to talk about?

When I started dancing I'd definitely catch myself going on and on...without really getting anywhere.  Either I was oversharing about something he didn't care about...or I was all out of ideas of what we should talk about.

With more experience under my belt, and a good bit of trial and error, I definitely have some good stories/activities/improv to keep the room going, but you know what’s 10x easier for you and 10x more rewarding for a good amount of customers?

Themselves!

Like everyone else on earth, they’re their own favorite subject.  Their wants, needs, memories, theories, habits, wins, pet peeves, style choices, favorite celebrity couple…he has opinions, and you have nothing but time!

If you’re struggling with VIPs feeling like a ton of emotional work, check in on how much you’re sharing v. He’s sharing.  Actively listening, adding commentary, and stepping back while he feels like the star can make time go by faster, make him more interested in staying longer, and honestly, usually leads to learning something new or leaving with a good story or two you wouldn’t hear otherwise.

I also get that there are customers who truly just want to sit back and hear from us, but even then I encourage you to plan ahead.  You know in the club there’ll be times you have the proverbial mic, so have some tried and true stories you like sharing (think anything that would belong in a penthouse letter), some hobbies and habits that he’d be interested in hearing about, and some dance moves/room activities that he probably hasn’t experienced before!

Lest you end up telling him about Sunday dinners, the job at the Palms, or any other topic that's guaranteed to be less interesting to him and more of a gamble for you!
